Corporate social responsibility and wellbeing

What is corporate social responsibility?
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) outlines an organisation’s ethical outlook and undertaking of activities to impact not only the workplace but society, the environment and the economy. It clearly demonstrates to customers, stakeholders and employees that a business is about so much more than its bottom line. It cares about social, environmental and economic factors affecting society too and will add value in each of these areas wherever it can. CSR is no longer a ‘nice to have’. It’s now vital for attracting customers (who want to work with companies who give back) and recruiting and retaining talent.

How CSR ties into employee wellbeing
CSR is essentially a mission to positively impact the wellbeing of the community. Given that an organisation’s greatest asset is its people, it makes sense that corporate responsibility should begin with a move to look after employees’ wellbeing.
A CSR wellbeing initiative increases employee engagement and job satisfaction. It leaves staff feeling valued and empowered to make positive contributions. If an employee believes in an organisation’s CSR efforts, they’re more likely to be advocates of the business and are more driven as well as productive. Not only this, they’re happier and have reason to be proud of the company they work for (effectively reducing staff turnover).
